Add Talindrew to ChatGPT and Claude

Connect Talindrew to the Claude and OpenAI APIs

Talindrew's MCP server gives the Claude and OpenAI APIs a molecular biology toolkit: plasmid maps, restriction digests and gels, primer and CRISPR design, PubMed search, your saved sequences and lab notebook, and structure prediction. The APIs call remote MCP servers but need a bearer token you obtain yourself with an OAuth client (for example the MCP SDK's).

Server URL

https://mcp.talindrew.com/mcp

Authentication: You pass an OAuth access token; the APIs do not run the sign-in for you.

Set it up

  1. Obtain a Talindrew access token with any OAuth 2.1 + PKCE client against the server's metadata (/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server).
  2. Pass the token with the server URL in the request, as below. Tokens last an hour; refresh them with the refresh token.

Claude Messages API (beta mcp-client-2025-11-20)

"mcp_servers": [{ "type": "url", "url": "https://mcp.talindrew.com/mcp", "name": "talindrew", "authorization_token": "<access token>" }],
"tools": [{ "type": "mcp_toolset", "mcp_server_name": "talindrew" }]

OpenAI Responses API

"tools": [{ "type": "mcp", "server_label": "talindrew", "server_url": "https://mcp.talindrew.com/mcp", "authorization": "<access token>", "require_approval": "never" }]

First things to ask

  • Use Talindrew to find the restriction sites in pUC19 and show me the map.
  • With Talindrew, design PCR primers for bases 100-600 of this sequence: <paste DNA>
  • Ask Talindrew for the melting temperature of CGTTGTAAAACGACGGCCAGTGAAT.
  • Search PubMed with Talindrew for recent Golden Gate assembly protocols.

Other ways to connect

  • Claude Agent SDK: sign in once from Claude Code on the same machine and the SDK reuses it, or pass headers: { Authorization: "Bearer <token>" }.

Remove or sign in again

Leave the server out of the request.

You can also disconnect any app from Talindrew itself under Settings → Connected apps.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Talindrew is a remote MCP server at https://mcp.talindrew.com/mcp. the Claude and OpenAI APIs connects to it over Streamable HTTP and signs in with OAuth; You pass an OAuth access token; the APIs do not run the sign-in for you.

the Claude and OpenAI APIs shows Talindrew's results as text and data rather than interactive panels. Every result includes a link that opens it in the Talindrew app with the map, gel or tool ready.

Yes, to start. Connecting is free, and the sequence analysis, primer, CRISPR, literature and lab-notebook tools include 25 calls a week on the free plan; Plus ($9 a month, 7-day free trial) makes them unlimited. Structure prediction and FoldRx drug-discovery runs use the monthly allowance of a Pro or Max plan, exactly as in the app.

Try: "Use Talindrew to find the restriction sites in pUC19 and show me the map." or "Ask Talindrew for the melting temperature of CGTTGTAAAACGACGGCCAGTGAAT." Talindrew has 90 tools covering sequence analysis, digests and gels, primers, CRISPR guides, protein properties, cloning reactions in a workspace, PubMed and Europe PMC, NCBI Gene, Addgene, your saved sequences and notebook, and structure prediction.
