Add Talindrew to ChatGPT and Claude

The MCP server for molecular biology

Talindrew gives Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor and 17 more AI apps 90 molecular biology tools: plasmid maps, digests and gels, primers, CRISPR guides, a cloning workspace that runs the reactions, literature and your lab notebook. Ask in plain language; results come back in the chat and open in the Talindrew app. Connecting is free.

Use Talindrew to fetch pUC19, digest it with EcoRI and PvuII, and show me the gel. Then save the gel to my notebook.
  1. create_workspaceWorkspace ready
  2. import_from_repositorypUC19, 2,686 bp circular
  3. simulate_gel3 bands: 2,364, 234 and 88 bp

Connect in three steps

About a minute in any app. You approve exactly what your AI app may do, and you can disconnect it any time in Talindrew's Settings.

  1. 1

    Copy the server URL

    https://mcp.talindrew.com/mcp
  2. 2

    Add it in your app

    16 more apps
    1. Open Customize โ†’ Connectors (claude.ai/customize/connectors), click + Add โ†’ Add custom connector.
    2. Name it Talindrew, paste https://mcp.talindrew.com/mcp and click Add (leave authentication on โ€œSign in nowโ€).
    3. Click Connect, sign in with Google and click Allow. New to Talindrew? That sign-in creates your free account.
    4. In a chat, ask for something Talindrew does; approve the tool when Claude asks.

Signing in with Google creates your free Talindrew account the first time. No card needed.

  3. 3

    Ask for something

Each of these is free and read-only. Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor show the results as interactive panels.

    • Use Talindrew to find the restriction sites in pUC19 and show me the map.
    • With Talindrew, design PCR primers for bases 100-600 of this sequence: <paste DNA>
    • Ask Talindrew for the melting temperature of CGTTGTAAAACGACGGCCAGTGAAT.

Rather start in the app? Create your free account, then add the connector.

Using an AI agent? Let it set Talindrew up

Paste this into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini CLI, Cline or any agent that can edit its own MCP settings.

Set up the Talindrew MCP server in this app.
- Server name: talindrew
- URL: https://mcp.talindrew.com/mcp
- Transport: Streamable HTTP (remote). Authentication: OAuth; do not add any API key or header.
Use this app's own command or MCP config file (merge into the existing config; never remove other servers).
Then tell me how to start the sign-in (it opens Talindrew in my browser; signing in with Google creates a free
account). After I've signed in, call Talindrew's primer_tm tool on CGTTGTAAAACGACGGCCAGTGAAT and show the result.

Every app it works with

Step-by-step setup, config files and one-click install links for every app. Signing in with Google creates a free Talindrew account the first time.

What it can do

One question, one tool call, one answer: pUC19 cut with EcoRI and HindIII gives 2,635 and 51 bp, both with a 4-nt 5โ€ฒ overhang. The map and the fragments come back in the conversation.

Sequence analysis

Free

The same engines as the app. Results come back as interactive maps, gels and tables in Claude and ChatGPT.

The cloning workspace

Free

A whole cloning strategy, built reaction by reaction: the same engine the app's workspace runs, on the same OpenCloning file. Every step comes back as the canvas's own node card, and the workspace opens in the app when you want the editor.

create_workspaceStart a cloning workspace, or open one you already have
import_sequenceBring a sequence in: typed, pasted GenBank/FASTA, or an uploaded file
import_from_repositoryAddGene, Benchling, SnapGene, Euroscarf, iGEM, WekWikGene or a genome region
add_cloning_stepRestriction, ligation, Gibson, Golden Gate, Gateway, PCR, recombination, CRISPR
design_cloning_primersPrimers for the reaction you are about to run, tails included
check_primersTm, hairpins and heterodimers before you order
check_sequencingRead a trace or a FASTA against the construct it should be
domesticate_partRemove internal sites and add the assembly's own overhangs
edit_workspace_sequenceCut, copy, paste, flip or set the origin, on the molecule
list_workspace_sequencesEvery step and product, as the canvas draws them
export_workspaceThe OpenCloning JSON, GenBank or a zip of the whole strategy

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Talindrew's MCP server (https://mcp.talindrew.com/mcp) gives Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini CLI and other MCP clients 90 molecular biology tools: plasmid maps and restriction digests, simulated gels, PCR and mutagenesis primer design, oligo Tm, CRISPR guide design, ORF finding, codon optimisation, protein properties, PubMed, Europe PMC, NCBI Gene and Addgene search, a lab notebook, structure prediction, and a full cloning workspace: restriction, ligation, Gibson, Golden Gate, Gateway and CRISPR reactions on the same OpenCloning file the app uses. It is free to connect, with OAuth sign-in.

Any MCP client that supports remote (Streamable HTTP) servers with OAuth: Claude (web, desktop, mobile), Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT, VS Code with GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Gemini CLI and Antigravity, Devin Desktop (Windsurf), Zed, Cline, Goose, opencode, Continue, Kiro, Warp, Raycast, Perplexity, Grok, Mistral and Microsoft Copilot Studio. Each has a setup page at talindrew.com/mcp.

Connecting is free, and the free plan includes 25 tool calls a week (reset every Monday) for the sequence, primer, CRISPR, literature and notebook tools. Plus ($9/month or $99/year, with a 7-day free trial) makes tool calls unlimited. Structure prediction and FoldRx drug-discovery runs use the monthly allowance of a Pro ($24/month) or Max ($99/month) plan, exactly as in the app.

Your AI app opens Talindrew in the browser, you sign in with Google (which creates a free account the first time) and approve the connection. The app receives a token for Talindrew only, never your Google credentials. You can disconnect it any time in Settings โ†’ Connected apps.

Claude on the web and desktop, ChatGPT and Cursor render Talindrew's results as interactive panels (MCP Apps); VS Code and Goose do so experimentally. Command-line clients such as Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI get the same results as text and data, with links that open each result in the Talindrew app.

Only when you ask. Tools that write say so, delete tools are marked destructive so your AI app asks before using them, and a connection can be limited to reading when you approve it.
